Incubuses are Lilum, those who dwell in the Absolute Darkness. There are two types of Incubuses: Blood Incubuses and Light Incubuses. Blood Incubuses, such as Hunting and Abraham Ravenwood, feed on mortal blood. Light Incubuses, who choose not to feed on blood, survive by taking bits and pieces of dreams, thoughts or memories from Mortals. After the dream fragments are taken, the Mortal has no memory of them anymore. Though both Blood and Light Incubuses are both technically Dark, Incubuses who restrain from drinking blood usually side with the Light.

The female counterpart is a Succubus.  A Succubus is quicker, stronger, and more clever than an Incubus. Leah Ravenwood is the only Succubus that appears in the series. An Incubus' lifespan is between 150-200 years. Incubuses were once called "Demon Soldiers"  as stated by both Macon and John Breed. Incubuses also have black eyes.

Incubuses go through the "Transformation", a process that makes them crave human blood and become animalistic. If a Mortal is bitten by an Incubus, he or she becomes an Incubus as well. Incubuses are unable to eat and drink anymore.

Powers[]

Incubuses have the ability to Travel, the ability to "rip" away, kind of like materializing. They also have the abilities of enhanced strength, being compared to a 2 by 4, enhanced speed, up to where it is a flash in the moment, and enhanced senses.  They also have the ability of seduction as all the girls were attracted to John Breed and Wesley Lincoln. Light Incubuses have the ability to absorb and feed off the memory and dream fragments of mortals.

Weaknesses[]

Full-blooded Incubuses has a common weakness that is shared with Vampires- they can't go out in the sun. Though mortals cannot physically hurt an Incubus, they can trap them with a ball-shaped prison called an Arclight. After an Incubus has been trapped in there, they cannot leave unless someone outside of the prison frees them by speaking the correct incantation.

Known Incubuses[]

Mythology[]

Incubus

Incubus in art

Incubus is a demon in male form who, according to a number of mythological and legendary traditions, lies upon sleepers, especially women, in order to have sexual intercourse with them. Its female counterpart is the succubus. An incubus may pursue sexual relations with a woman in order to father a child, as in the legend of Merlin. Religious tradition holds that repeated intercourse with an incubus or succubus may result in the deterioration of health, or even death.

A Succubus

In folklore traced back to medieval legend, a succubus is a female demon or supernatural entity that appears in dreams, who takes the form of a human woman in order to seduce men, usually through sexual intercourse. The male counterpart is the incubus. Religious traditions hold that repeated intercourse with a succubus may result in the deterioration of health or even death.

In modern fictional representations, a succubus may or may not appear in dreams and is often depicted as a highly attractive seductress or enchantress; whereas, in the past, succubi were generally depicted as frightening and demonic.
